When you set the machine off placing for some jobs it takes a look at tool 5 in 3 positions 120 degrees apart?

Ok so I can guess why it does it, but why does it do this on some jobs and not others?

Mike

Perhaps only on jobs that use parts above a certain size?
Might be interesting on a job that does it to put the wrong tool in there and see if you get a meaningful error message.

In the Place program, in the utilities menu, there is an option to check camera - Always or never.
This is what it is doing, It picks up tool No.5 and spins it 120 deg. at a time to find the centre of the tool, it then uses this info to give a more accurate place, although i have found that as long as this is set up correctley in the first instance it is unnecesary to check camera always!
As to why yours does it sometimes and not others is a bit of a mystery! the options are always or never.

heh, because that's what happens with most settings on an RV? ;) Like setting a custom index value, changing the rotation of parts in a tray, and whether or not checking the Test CDF box means anything will happen.

Hmmm well mine has always been set to off so I thought it would give it a whirl, and surprise surprise the check fails. Now this thread here http://electricstuff.co.uk/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=68f73bef5739373aad3ae95bb0e04a8f&topic=104.msg590#msg590  helpfully details what should be the process to fix it. However before I dive in and twiddle things has anyone successfully carried out this process, do they have any hints or tips before I backup and cause chaos?

SkyWalker

Its very straight forward if the proceedure is followed carefully.

My regime is to back up the machine dats and all job files, Better safe than sorry! Then think twice; check again!  then press buttons once. It works for me.  :)

Only had to do any adjustments once on all 3 of my Rv4s's and they are used virtually every day of the week for the past few years so they get some hammering!

Then once a month as a matter of routine i tick the check camera always box in the utilities menu and allow it to do its thing, just in case things have started to drift!!

Its worth checking the white inner part of tool No5 is fixed in the correct position within the tool body first in case it has moved. As it has with mine a couple of times, it will give you a false reading if it has.

As always with these machines, slowly slowly catchy monkey and Good luck sir.  ;)

Gopher

Well this should be fun.
Finally light at the end of my new machine tunnel too, when it comes I am tempted to beat this one with a brick; however it occurs to me someone might want to pay for it so maybe not.

SkyWalker

Better to retire it quietly into a dark corner and chant prayers to the great god versa!!  ;D

Someone will buy it someday  (I have three of 'em) Stop laughing now  :o

Yes they have there problems, of which there can be many!!! but all in all i say they are a bloody good work horse.......

Mine have been working daily for the last 4/5 years, placing batch qty's of up to 2000 off at a time, board sizes up to 320mm x 220mm, and occationally larger - thats a secret trick that i wont be giving away  :P heavily populated from 0603 (occationally 0402) up to fine pitch ssop's, Qfp's etc.. and large components up to 42mm sq.--- Oh yes it can be done and very succesfully.

Gopher

You clearly have a great deal more patience than I. Feb 2002 we got this beastie.

Gopher

And whatdyaknow, it really was that easy, nasty offset on my flying camera explains a lot too. Much better now, does anyone know if any of the other options on that screen are user tweakable?
