Passive feeders

In case anyone is interested in some passive feeders, I found some on thingiverse, printed them off and they work a treat. Really impressed with them.

How are you mounting these to the RV1/RV4s? Just double sided tape?

Hi, the feeders have magnets on the bottom so they can just sit on the base. Strength of magnets depend on what you go for. You can define the size in the thingiverse contructor to take any size magnets.

The other way is double sided tape but its not very easy to get off the feeder or the base afterwards.

That's cool, i didn't think about it being magnetic ... I'm hoping to use the RV1S just for "exotic" stuff that won't fit on the Juki, so 3d printable feeders are perfect for the job.

Where are you based? Did you just buy the machine on Ebay that sold yesterday?

North-west UK, and yep bought off eBay yesterday - lots of research until it arrives.

Have experience with much larger machines (iPulses) and Juki's so not new to the PnP game, although I've never a none-XY gantry based setup, so going to be interesting.

Be careful using magnets - most parts are magnetic and can tombstone in passive feeders if there is a strong magnet underneath.
magnets from small speakers ar ideal as they are usually well shielded

I guess its probably? ok because the magnets are at the base and the tapes ~22mm above the magnet? Did you have to tweak the height of the feeder Trev - not sure how much Z-travel the RV*S actually has (yet)...

The standard models are 25mm ish high I think. I used these on the base plate of the machine. I actually did some pcb holders that I printed off. They had 6mm high magnets in them and were about 20mm high. I placed a couple of components on a board near a holder but without tape or paste on the board and the components moved. These parts have such little mass, they can be affected.

So Mike is right, you do have to be careful.
