RV Hardware / Cabinet closed detection
Last post by lax - August 27, 2025, 05:25:05 PM
Hi,
I have recently obtained An RV4s which I am now learning to use. Initially I had problems with the "Arm board not detected", but that has now been replaced with "Cabinet cover not in place". After a quick view I see that the wire from the cabinet closed switch appears to be cut and I also noticed that the 9 way D connector next to the 37 way D connector is missing as well as the DIN audio connector next to the 25 way D connector is also missing. Can anybody tell me what these missing plugs might do and if they are related to the Cabinet closed switch?

Thank you for any help offered.

For Sale/Wanted, Suppliers / EX CUBIK RV4S For Sale
Last post by NIJI99 - May 30, 2025, 07:53:39 PM
Hi, I wish to sell my treasured RV4S as I have gone over to the dark side and bought a desktop machine. I purchased the machine from Paul at Cubik about 5 years ago and it has done me incredible service making small batches of pcb's. It was used up until 2 weeks ago. The only concession to it's original fit is that the air pump is a unit off ebay which has worked flawlessly for 18 months. Paul and I did investigate buying new pumps and did all the hard work but realised that only one company supplied them in the UK their cost was about £250 but the company had a Minimum order value of £300. so I opted for the cheaper option, my thinking being that I could buy quite a lot of pumps for that sum of money if they failed !
Anyway Bits:- machine in original housing which is in very good condition, 3 off 10 x 8 feeders, 1 off 3 x 12 & 3 x 16 feeder, 1 x Vib feeder, 1 off connecting cable DSP to first feeder, 4 off feeder box cables, Dell monitor and Keyboard with touchscreen mouse, PC with SSD installed (windows 98), 1 off uninterruptible PSU, 2 off spare economy air pumps, Feeder O rings, nozzle O rings, 2 off spare nozzles, 5 off installed nozzles, 1 off installed USB cable to import data, 2 x special 3D printed jigs to load no-reel components,. Hundreds of component footprints and feeder setups. Can be seen working. I am advertising here as I need someone familiar with the quirks of the RV4S to take it on as I don't have time to train anybody up. You will have seen the 2 ridiculously priced machine on ebay I am open to offers around £425.00. Located in South Somerset.

Yes I still have a few of them - new old stock. Paypal me £20 each  inc. shipping to mike@whitewing.co.uk
Probably worth trying swapping the  X and Y Drivers to confirm it's that, but check the wiring for shorts first.
I don't know what killed the one that died on me but not had any issues since.

Hi Mike.

Do you still have some of the drivers on hand, it can be the PMM5301 chips only and not the complete driver if you have some still left. I have just finished setting up all my components, ready to start building boards when my X-axis started to make a terrible sound. It sounds like something grinding in the turret and it also had jitter movements when moving. Turned off everything looking for the problem. I have spend the last hour looking for a loose or broken connection but could not find anything. Removing the X-Motor Driver plug points me to a driver phase failure issue.

On a similar subject - after my near-disaster with mains on the feeder serial port, I've just been going through & testing all the various spare bits I have, and noticed that some of the caps on the PC motherboard were bulging.
Not only that, the ones on the identical unused spare motherboard I had were the same!
3300uf caps, measured 1-15uF.
No obvious ill-effects but seemed prudent to replace them.

Hi Mike, I once had a live to RS232 short in the back of one of the shells on a link cable. It killed pretty much everything including the PC PSU but amazingly, the PC was ok once I changed the PSU. On this system, the com ports were on the MB and unsurprisingly were not found by W98 any more, so I managed to add a 2 com port bord and got the thing up and going again.

It was a terrible idea! We ended up doing a periodic inspection on all feeder cables as a precaution. Im glad the box of bits came in useful!
