Other low-end Pick/Place machines / OpenPNP
November 26, 2023, 06:49:27 PM
I have started to purchase some parts to build my own machine. I think OpenPNP is mature enough to be useful. I feel there are many benefits despite the new learning curve it will hopefully be enjoyable.

Does anyone have any experience with these machines?

When I designed my feeder control board I implemented a soft start on the feed. I did this to stop led movement in the tape but also felt it would help with tape slip. I had a feeling the initial fast movement of the original feeder might cause the tape to slip easier. I think it helps but no real way to prove it.

I think dust on tape does build up and make the rubber surface too smooth after a while though.

Sorry ran out of time before going away. My first print didn't print too bad but not great. Print Mike did looks great for an fdm printer. I think a cone shape on the nozzle would allow for printing without supports.

I have black resin so that should be okay.

Jason, that is awesome work. Thanks.

I shall try and print a set later on and post some pics for everyone. Now Jason has them all created we can even create some custom ones. I would like one with a tool1 style for tool2 with maybe slightly smaller hole, etc.

RV Hardware / resin printed nozzles
July 29, 2023, 09:22:41 PM
I have a resin printer now and am considering printing some nozzles with it. I think it should be good enough and so cheap it won't matter about breakages. I reckon they will cost pennies each.

Do we have stl files of the nozzles?

Anyone interested in some if I print them?

But the OTF camera doesn't do a rotation or movement. The camera is fixed to the arm so it can't correct any error and check it's fixed. It seems to take one reading any done

Hi Mike

When I put the mirror back on, I did focus, centre and ratio? in calibration. I do not believe I had the offset previously but talking to a friend who used to run RVs he said he used to have one cdf for OTF and one for Fixed because he always had an offset he had to put in.

Are you saying that if the calibration is performed correctly then the OTF calibration will take care of any offset?

Managed the white led OTF upgrade. Seems to be doing the trick. Took a bit of calibration and a placement offset adjustment in the cdf file but placed great after that. Real speed improvement to be able to use OTF reliably.

Thanks Mike for the initial info.

I have a switched mode power supply so don't think I will see the dip. I found that initially the OTF camera would work but as the day progressed things would just get more and more unreliable. Maybe sunlight. But it was just a shame. Looking froward to implementing this now as the RV4s running with OTF can actually run at a decent pace.

Awesome.

I roughed up a few to see if that helps but great to know it makes a difference. Thanks for sharing

I printed some off Thingiverse years ago. They were okay

Mike, is the wiring to the LEDs 12v? I am thinking of tracking a board with some white me LEDs on.

Thanks, hopefully I can find the time soon. Want to upgrade the OTF camera at the same time

RV Hardware / RV4s rewire
November 25, 2022, 09:35:51 AM
Well I have a machine with intermittent operation of movement. I changed all parts other than the wiring in the arm. I even replaced the wiring in the head to the arm. The problem is with the rotation of the nozzle. It skips steps and it's intermittent.

I am wondering if the best course of action at this stage would be replace the loom in the column leading to the arm. Anyone done anything like this. or worked on this wiring loom? Any recommendations for reliable wire to use to replace it?

Any info/suggestions welcome.

Mike, how is the OTF camera performing with the white led upgrade?
