RV Software / Re: Tips for accurate placement?

Thanks Trev,

I've taken to watching the values that are calculated for body size by the camera and entering those in the cdf. One thing I don't understand is whether the X/Y position for pickup is critical or whether it is adjusted successfully after the 1st pick or two. I set the pick height by moving the nozzle down until the component moves the tape down and then backing off one 10 mil notch. Does that sound right? That's an interesting thought re nozzle wear - do you have some way of refurbing old ones?

RV Software / Tips for accurate placement?

Hi,

Does anyone have any tips for accurate placement? Anything to watch out for? I'm talking in this case about component-to-component mis-alignments rather than the overall calibration onto the PCB. (That might be a separate useful thread  :) ) I usually end up doing a fair amount of nudging of components and that's OK with a small number of chips ... But I have an IR LED board coming up with ~500 very expensive LEDs on it that I would like to be accurate without me nudging each damn one.

Mike, I remember, for instance some images of an 0402 pattern that looked nicely regular. How did you do that?

What are the key factors - vacuum, nozzles, RVPlace settings, power?

OK well I think this was caused by accidentally swapping a USB mouse into the joystick port, but I was changing several things at once (including te-installing WIN98) so I would have to backtrack to verify.

I kind of think I've had something like this before but cured by a reboot. This is what it looks like:

http://anagram.net/nuts/Versatronics/Video/IMG_4228.MOV

The first few seconds are with me moving the mouse a little but it always returning by itself to a given position ... therefore I'm unable to move it around the dialog to the controls. At the end of the clip you can see the mouse revert to normal as soon as it is off the 'Feeder Allocation' dialog. I did get past this point by editing the feeders files manually, but I have the same problem on a couple of other dialogs (e.g. the Move dialog with all the left/right up/down buttons) where I think they're doing maybe a bit more mouse work.

RV Software / Weird mouse behaviour

Hi,

The RVSetup / RVPlace GUIs on my machine have started doing something odd ... the mouse is sort of trapped in a small space on some dialog boxes e.g. 'Feeder Allocation', which makes those dialogs (and therefore the machine) unusable. Otherwise the mouse behaves fine in Windows and the main body of those two apps. I can't remember doing anything which might have started that behaviour and it seemed to work fine when I last used the machine a few weeks ago ... my memory could be better these days though ... :)

I have had AutoHotkey and TinyVNC installed for some time now and I've used both serial and USB mice with this machine (I get the same behaviour with both kinds of mice). Uninstalling VNC doesn't seem to help any. Reboots and power-recycle don't seem to change the behaviour.

Anyone have any ideas or any debugging steps to fix?

TIA, Alan

A formlabs/SLA but using 3D hubs (which seems to have fallen apart now).

Yeah I am, but atm it's a bit of a craft industry :). That is, drilling out the 0.4/0.6mm hole is a bit hit and miss, and I find I need to ream out the body a bit to fit the brass insert. I successfully made some smaller o-ring-based nozzles for domed LEDs, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend the process :). The process and fit could be improved given enough time and energy.

I did notice recently that EDM (i.e. tiny) tubing is available and that presumably would make v. exact nozzle tips. Alternatively, simply making a head that accepted off-the-shelf Juki nozzles would presumably do it.

Sorry to be slow to reply - I've been quite busy. It was ~£3 each plus shipping, duty etc. Say, £35 + VAT for 10 shipped?

>>> Is the part rotation happening after its picked it up or during transport of the part?
>>> Just checking that the nozzle's not partly blocked, and that you're dwelling for long enough at pickup time (and not picking from too high).

All good points, and the answer is: I'm not sure. I've tried the phone slowmo before but not had much success, will try again.

Hi trev,

I'm wondering what you did as I have a concern re components swiveling on the nozzle. Did you get a new pump or some upgraded power?

>>> If the camera doesn't have the shutter time control, first thing would be to stop the lens down as far as it can go, then look at adding an ND filter.

On my RV1S, I just replaced the LED ring without changing the camera settings or using an ND filter etc. I leave the interior lights on when it's placing and it seems fine. I think the camera AGC sorts it all out OK.

>>> How much did they end up costing?

Waiting for the duty charges to come through, but about $5 a piece. I went with some guys I had used before to reduce the risk a bit.

OK have ordered 100 of these if anyone needs any.

Ah interesting, let me try those.
