For Sale/Wanted, Suppliers / RV1S for sale
September 20, 2020, 06:54:29 PM
Hi! Moving out of country so have RV1S for sale. Was used in production until I purchased a new Chinese machine two years ago and it has been sitting there as a backup since, but never had to turn it on after I switched to the new machine.

I have 9 feeders that came with it, lots of spare parts, nozzles. I upgraded PSU on this machine with the help of this forum and PC which runs 98 so supports USB flash drives. Will also provide the original PC running 95 as a backup.

Not sure about feeder types and their condition. Will very likely need servicing, because I only needed and used three out of nine. There are:

- four 10 lane
- three vibration feeders
- one that has 4 small lanes and 3 larger
- last one has 3 very large lanes.

Can be seen running in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JovNFbyKL1U

Available in Hitchin, Herts. Would need to be gone before 28th of September.

Won't sell separately, want £900 for the whole lot or highest offer. Can't do VAT invoice, because it was purchased personally before the business was set up.

RV Software / Fiducial camera weirdness
July 25, 2016, 07:50:45 PM
Trying to get my machine set up and fiducial camera has always bothered me. I haven't been using fiducial camera and just manually adjusting the position for the board. This worked OK, but I want to get this sorted.

My panels have only one set of fiducials for the whole panel. When I setup the board and position the the ref 1 manually, ref 2 is always spot on. This is how much off is the fiducial camera for bottom left corner:

This is how much it's offset on the top right corner:

If I align the board with fiducial camera, my placement is completely off.

I understand that there may be two issues.

Issue #1: Fiducial Camera Offset is incorrect

I've been trying to set up the offset by entering various values in the fiducial camera offset settings, but can't seem to get even close to making both fiducials work. If I set up for one, then the other one is way off. Does any one have any suggestions on what would be the best way to calibrate offsets? From my experience even the location of where I'm calibrating the fiducial camera affects the values I have to input in the offset box.

Issue #2: Machine needs grid calibration

Doesn't that mean that the machine needs grid calibration? Out of frustration I even started reverse engineering the code which does calibration grid with some good results. More about this in a separate thread.

RV Hardware / Feeder connector part numbers
July 19, 2016, 02:49:53 PM
Does anyone know the feeder connector and socket part numbers? Can't seem to find them on RS website. It seems that the socket on the main box for the feeder plug has the wires crimped to the female pins and I want to rewire that connector, because the wires which carry 220V are too thin.

RV Hardware / Power supply issues
April 16, 2016, 11:55:36 AM
So I have this very old RV1S with toroidal transformer and veroboard based power supply circuitry. If you remember I mentioned that I have issues with random rotation of placed components. Been placing about 12 panels yesterday with about 200 components each and most of them had random rotation issues especially with 0603 caps. Came in today and the machine has been placing 4 5 panels so far with 0 issues and correct component angles. The only difference between yesterday and today is that I am working alone in a rather large office building.

Mike mentioned in one of his post that toroids work just fine unless mains voltage is unstable and I think I do have unstable mains when office building is full. What would be the best option to mitigate this issue? I'm thinking of either replacing the toroid and veroboard with a couple of high quality switch mode PSUs of just buy a high quality UPS that would also act as backup power in case of power failure.

I would probably prefer a UPS solution as it's very easy to install and I wouldn't have to bother with PSU rewiring. From what I've read on the internet, I need a high quality PSU that would also stabilize the mains power. Would any of you have suggestions on what I should purchase?

Thanks in advance for your help!

RV Hardware / X axis problem
September 07, 2015, 07:07:59 PM
I think my RV1S has a problem with the X axis. I can definitely hear a different sound when I manually move the machine in X direction (technically when I move more for the X motor rather than Y). Y movement sounds very smooth, but X has this grinding sound Mike mentioned in one of the other posts. I've seen Mike's video about fixing the hybrid module, but before I go that path does anybody have suggestions on how to diagnise the actual fault?

RV Hardware / Feeders pull back after index
August 21, 2015, 08:25:03 AM
Have one annoying problem. Some feeder lanes occasionally pull back the tape after index. It looks as if the "click" does not happen. Is this mechanical issue? This does not happen if I manually index feeders, only during automatic placement.

RV Software / Custom software for RV1S/RV4S
August 20, 2015, 12:33:35 PM
The original software RV1S came with is OK, but has it's own annoyances as most of you probably know. Primarily I'm a software developer and I'm very keen on building custom software for the machine. My biggest concern is that the full calibration method for the machine is unknown and I suspect I have calibration issues with my machine which make it quite complicated to use it.

Mechanically the machine is very simple, the arm movement can be controlled with some very simple inverse kinematics, image recognition for components/fiducials can be done with OpenCV. My only concern is communication with hardware. I can very easily sniff out the communication on COM ports, the imaging board should also be possible to hook into and get image data, but the ISA board is a complete mystery to me. Does anybody have any clue about the communication protocol with the ISA board? I've read somewhere in the forum that one of the members have reverse engineered the board and was wondering if there is any information about the communication that could be shared?

With currently available software libraries that cover gerber file reading, image recognition it should be possible to turn this machine back into a very usable tool with ability to recalibrate and utilize it to full potential.

RV Hardware / X/Y distortion
August 20, 2015, 12:05:33 PM
I recently purchased RV1S and learned pretty much everything about the machine from this forum. Thanks for an invaluable resource!

I have a problem with the machine, there is X/Y distortion when placing the components. I have a 145mm x 120mm panel I'm placing and I can see that there is placement error as the components are being placed closer and closer to the edge of the PCB. The distortion happens both in X and Y axis. I managed to overcome this issue by offsetting the fiducials, but there are still issues with placement. Any suggestions on how I could fix this or is this the dreaded calibration issue?

Also I can't use the fiducial camera, because it seems to be making the distortion even bigger as I suspect it's not calibrated correctly, however I've read on this forum that it's possible to use the machine without it and I've successfully done it.
