Title: Custom trays for large or 'off tape' components.
Post by: phonoplug on September 30, 2010, 06:03:57 PM
Have some custom made trays for use with components that a) aren't on tape, b) are on tape but too big for the feeders, or c) for use with small tape offcuts.

Can produce almost any tray for the odd parts you may need to place - just send a datasheet for the part and I can quote it. Number of 'pockets' in x and y to your specification. Also combination trays to suit your particular job.

Trays are made from aluminium and have 4 (or more) strong magnetic feet to secure it in the placement area.

Standard trays:

6.3mm Dia SM Electrolytic Caps - usually too tall to fit in the feeder lanes (pictured)
8mm Dia SM Electrolytic Caps
10mm Dia SM Electrolytic Caps
HC49-SM crystals
SM-B diodes
8mm tape - for small offcuts of tape etc (pictured)

Drop me a message if interested.

Hope those magnets are shielded - first time I made up a tray I used normal magnets and had some slightly magnetic components tombstoning in the magnetic field!

I also got one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-set-5-way-SMT-SMD-Feeder-DIY-Prototype-Pick-Place-/250701715811?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5efc9963), which has slots with slight overhangs to hold strips of 8mm tape in place. Machining quality and finish is pretty awful , but still useable (throw away the reel holder!).
There is enough space between the lanes to stick odd-sized tapes down with double-sided sticky tape.

Apparently you have to be logged in to see the pictures. Odd.

This was a default option on the forum SW, presumably to limit bandwidth - changed now.

What sort of cost do your custom trays come in at?
What is the cost of your standard ones?

Standard trays listed above are £60 each. 10% discount if ordering 3 or more, or 20% for 5 or more. Prices are ex-VAT and delivery.

Custom tray costs really depend on complexity of the pockets and number of pockets per tray/size of tray. Email me details of the component or a datasheet with your specification for number of pockets etc. and I'll return with a quote.
